Meet Malcolm Bell of Undefeated Quarterback Training in Richmond
Today we’d like to introduce you to Malcolm Bell.
Malcolm, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today. My story from little league through HS sounds pretty identical to many successful athletes around the country. Growing up, I was always one of the better players on my team in the little league, which transitioned over to the high school level. In HS, I started Quarterback for three years (1 at John Marshall HS & 2 at Henrico HS) and receive offers to play Division 1 football.
After a great visit, I decided to commit to North Carolina Central University — an HBCU in Durham, North Carolina. Now here is where things start to shift a little. As we all know, many athletes make it to the college level, but it’s all about what you do when you get there. My career at NC Central was one to remember, leaving as the winningest Quarterback in School history, the leader in Passing Efficiency, a Black College Hall of Fame finalist, and one of the first players to go Pro at the Quarterback position. We also won 3 Conference Titles and was the first team in NCCU history to be ranked in the FCS top 25 (#18) during my time there.
Somewhere in between my failures and success at NCCU, I began to think about what I didn’t have as a young athlete — something that could’ve changed the trajectory of my career. That “something” was a Quarterback Trainer — someone that could’ve prepared me for everything that hit me during my first years of college football. As I sit back and think about my downfalls and deficiencies as a Quarterback, I can honestly say that if I had a trainer through my little league and HS days, I could have had opportunities at a higher level Division 1 program.
However, God planned to make me the person young athletes, college athletes and even Pro athletes can look to and seek advice, direction, instruction, and support. In 2017, after being released by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the Canadian Football League, I went back home to Richmond, VA and started what I thought was needed in my city. I knew it was a huge void in the Quarterback Training area. So I started Undefeated Quarterback Training, where Quarterbacks from all over could receive quality instruction to fulfill their dreams of playing college football. Now, Undefeated Quarterback Training has over 200 QBs in its program from national recruits in HS to Division 1 players and Pros. Back when I started, no one knew what to expect but now it’s different. At 26 years old, I’m cementing myself as one of the top trainers in the business — not just in Virginia but in the entire country.
Has it been a smooth road?It hasn’t always been a smooth road. Being a young trainer/coach was tough starting out simply because people love to tie knowledge with age. Just because you’re young and ten years younger than the top guys in your profession doesn’t mean you should take the backseat and that’s what I had to continue to tell myself as I grow into who I am now in the training landscape.
We’d love to hear more about your business.Undefeated Quarterback Training provides quality instruction and mentorship for Quarterbacks of all ages and experience levels. The process makes me super proud – being able to be a small piece in an athlete’s journey means so much to me. What sets me apart from others is my knowledge, enthusiasm, patience, and ability to tailor my approach for any learner I come across.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?Based in Richmond, Virginia but have clients in many different states along the East Coast.
